Grant Opportunities
The International Orem Society
is pleased to offer funding to support projects for the
Advancement of Nursing Science and
Scholarship.
Purpose
The
purpose of this funding opportunity is to promote the
advancement of nursing science and scholarship in the area
of Orem's Theory of Self-Care Deficit Nursing. Priority is
given to projects that will lead to further advancement of
knowledge for the discipline of nursing.
Eligibility
Criteria:
• Applicants must
be members of the International Orem Society
(IOS)
• Applicants must
submit a completed research application package and signed
research agreement
• Applicants must
be ready to implement research project when funding is
received and agree to send in an abstract, etc., to be
published about the results

Because
funds are limited, they may not be used for salary for
grant applicants or institutional overhead. They may,
however, be used to hire research assistants. Funds may
also be used for consultants, essential equipment and
supplies, telephone, necessary travel, and other relevant
costs. All budget items should be justified with brief,
clear rationale.

COMPONENTS
OF THE APPLICATION
1.Cover
Sheet
In the
form for a title page, include:
Title of project
Name and
affiliation of Principal Investigator
2.Specific
Aims
Maximum one-half page. Be clear
and succinct. List what will be described and/or what
questions will be answered (theoretical and/or research
questions).
3.Background
and Significance
Maximum one page. Include the
most critical highlights of the literature to show what has
been accomplished to date and to demonstrate that the aims
of the proposed study have not already been achieved.
Describe the importance to nursing of achieving the
specific aims of this project.
4.Importance
to Development of Scholarly Program
Maximum one page. Briefly
describe the investigator's own preliminary work on the
topic and show how the proposed research or theoretical
work is a logical, important, and/or necessary next step.
Then briefly describe how the investigator's future work
will build on what will have been accomplished in the
proposed research or theoretical
project.
5.Methods and
Procedures
At
least one and a half pages.
If a research project: describe
the Sample and give supporting data for your assertion that
you will be able to obtain the requisite data during the
time allotted. Describe Data Collection Procedures. List
any Instruments you plan to use and provide copies in an
appendix. Describe the Research Design and planned Data
Analysis Procedures.
If a theoretical project: describe the
approach to be used in detail. Include structural level of
theory development (concept, proposition or interrelated
proposition level). Explicate the method to be used as
analysis, synthesis or derivation.
Please note that the
above four sections, Specific Aims, Background and
Significance, Importance to Development of Research
Program, and Methods and Procedures, should occupy
altogether a maximum of four single-spaced pages, in type
no smaller than 10 point. Applicants should have a goal of
maximizing a clear, organized presentation and minimizing
verbosity.
6.Plan
of Work/Timeline
Maximum one page. List the
tasks to be accomplished during the course of the project.
Describe who will do them and when they will be done (e.g.,
Data Collection, Research Assistant, timeframe,
etc.).
Maximum one page. Using a graph that displays the
weeks/months of the project on the horizontal axis and the
tasks to be accomplished on the vertical axis, show the
duration of the tasks and their sequence or overlap in
horizontal bars.
7.Budget
and Justification
Maximum two pages. List the
expenditures to be charged to the grant and the dollar
amounts for each. Describe why each budget time is critical
to the project.
8.References
Using
the American Psychological Association format, list the
references cited in the proposal. Additional references not
cited for reasons of brevity may be listed in a separate
section, but the TOTAL of all the references should not
exceed two pages.
9.Appendices
Attach
a one-page maximum biographical sketch of the principal
investigator.
Attach a copy of the Institutional Review
Board approval if the project involves use of human
subjects for research and if this is required in country of
the principal investigator.
